Due to unavoidable circumstances I was unable to attend or listen to the radio coverage of United's 2-1 victory over the Harrisburg. From reviewing the Twitter feed, it appears that various United players had issues finishing, Harrisburg didn't play all that great, and United wasn't so fantastic overall either. Hearsay evidence being notoriously unreliable, I'll stop here and look forward to match reports from percipient witnesses. However, there's just one other thing . . . .
Would it kill United to send a guy with a video camera and a laptop computer to these games in order to stream a feed and/or generate a video archive for later viewing? Shoot, you could probably get the assistant equipment manager's pimply faced nephew to do this for free just for kicks.
Here's the thing about sports: every broadcast of a game, every news report about a game, every highlight reel--each of these things is an advertisement for the next game. Every broadcast strengthens the brand and markets the team. Why is United not making the most basic effort to show video of these games? After all, we are now living in an era in which every teenager seems to be streaming worthless videos of themselves, so why can't this team?
Then there's the issue of keeping faith with your loyal fans. Honestly, I'm sure everyone who wanted to go or could have gone to the match at the Soccerplex would have, regardless of the existence of internet video coverage. In recent times we've seen eyebrow-raising ticket price hikes (United may well be getting over priced for this market) and ever shocking amenities at RFK. Fair enough. But could they at least throw us a bone once in awhile?
